Rem Koolhaas dropped a white concrete polyhedron into the middle of a roundabout in 2005. Guided tours open the main hall, one wall of which is entirely glazed.
A twelfth-century Romanesque fortress perched above the old town, later given a baroque overlay. Its Gothic cloister is entirely lined with blue eighteenth-century azulejo tiles.
Its 270-metre concrete arch was the longest in the world when it opened in 1963. It can be climbed by stairway, harnessed and with a guide.
